About

Christmas on Evergreen is an animated Christmas lights display with over 90,000 lights set to music for the 2020 Christmas season. Since 2012, the show has been designed, built, and choreographed by Christian Tingle, currently a Junior at Case Western Reserve University. Donations are accepted and go directly to Make-a-Wish of Illinois. To date, Christmas on Evergreen has raised over $91,000 with $35,000 raised last season alone.

A note from Christian:
As a child, setting up Halloween decorations, constructing haunted houses and putting up Christmas lights allowed me to engage in my two favorite things: holidays and building. My passion exploded in second grade after my aunt showed me a video of an incredible animated holiday display in Utah. From then on, my dream was to create a holiday light display at my home for the people in my neighborhood to enjoy.

In 7th grade, after years of studying, planning, and designing, I asked my parents for permission to install a holiday light show. They said yes, and today this massive project has become the ultimate outlet for my love of building, technology and holiday spirit. I spend countless hours every summer designing, fabricating, and wiring new props and display elements. Setup begins annually on October 1st, and it takes approximately 200 hours to build and program the show.

From December through mid-January, nearly 1,000 cars drive by my display; for many people from my community and the greater Chicagoland, a leisurely cruise by my house has become an annual tradition. Knowing I am brightening their winter and bringing joy to both those who pass by and children in need makes the hours and hard work worthwhile.

This show was so spectacular in person! I couldn't believe how much work must have gone into it, especially the coordination with the music. What a treat -- thank you for all the time/effort!

Christian Tingle is an exceptional young man. Although the Christmas light show is mind blowing fantastic, the real story is about the person whose vision has created this event. And that is what this is, an event to be experienced, not just a light show. My wife and I have seen all 7 years of Christian's shows, starting in 2011 (I think?). Christian was in 6th grade when he decorated his family's home and choreographed the lights to music for the first time. What started out as a project for him, has become so much more. His abilities to put this together show real talent, and that he has chosen to also allow donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Charity, and that he takes pleasure in seeing children and adults smile while experiencing his creation, show something special about this young man. And, he is now only a Senior in High School! I cannot wait to read about Christian in the future, which for him is as bright as this creation. My smile is not just for the Christmas lights, but for this special person named Christian Tingle! Experience his creation, and make a donation with a smile on your face. This is so much what the Holiday Season is about. Cheers.
