About

Christmas on Evergreen is an animated Christmas lights display with over 90,000 lights set to music for the 2020 Christmas season. Since 2012, the show has been designed, built, and choreographed by Christian Tingle, currently a Junior at Case Western Reserve University. Donations are accepted and go directly to Make-a-Wish of Illinois. To date, Christmas on Evergreen has raised over $91,000 with $35,000 raised last season alone.

A note from Christian:
As a child, setting up Halloween decorations, constructing haunted houses and putting up Christmas lights allowed me to engage in my two favorite things: holidays and building. My passion exploded in second grade after my aunt showed me a video of an incredible animated holiday display in Utah. From then on, my dream was to create a holiday light display at my home for the people in my neighborhood to enjoy.

In 7th grade, after years of studying, planning, and designing, I asked my parents for permission to install a holiday light show. They said yes, and today this massive project has become the ultimate outlet for my love of building, technology and holiday spirit. I spend countless hours every summer designing, fabricating, and wiring new props and display elements. Setup begins annually on October 1st, and it takes approximately 200 hours to build and program the show.

From December through mid-January, nearly 1,000 cars drive by my display; for many people from my community and the greater Chicagoland, a leisurely cruise by my house has become an annual tradition. Knowing I am brightening their winter and bringing joy to both those who pass by and children in need makes the hours and hard work worthwhile.

Thank you so so much, for doing this! 2020 hasn’t been great. But seeing your Christmas cheer, helped us enjoy some moments. We’ve visited a few times, and we’re so grateful for your family’s kindness and effort. Happy 2021!

Christian, my wife and I have been going to your light display every year since you started on Garland. That you have lived on streets named "Garland" and "Evergreen", and that you are named Christian, makes me think that you are the real Santa Claus. Your light shows have made brightened our Christmas every year. For everyone that gets to experience this truly unique and wonderful effort, I suggest that we help Christian get to a total donation of $100K! I see that he only needs another $12K. Let's all do our part. Merry Christmas, and thank you for the years of smiles and deep felt appreciation of this tremendous effort. You are truly talented.
